Part exchange for a new car:
This is OK it you are going to buy from the same manufacturer, you should get a fair trade in. If you decide to buy a different brand of new car the salesman is likely to bid you a very low price for your car.
Sell to a Dealer for cash without buying something else:
Driving your car from forecourt to forecourt asking somebody to buy your car is not a nice experience. You are on the territory and they know this. They will find every excuse to put your car down and offer you a pittance for it. All in all it can be a horrible experience.
Sell by private advertising
Private adverts have got really expensive over the last few years and the response from them is a fraction of what it was 5 years ago. I remember Autotrader advertising 'Mr J Bloggs from Hull had 46 phone call and sold his Mondeo on the first morning of publication.' Now Mr Bloggs would be lucky if phone rings at all.
This coupled with having complete strangers picking and poking your car to bits and then wanting to take it out (probably uninsured) on a white knuckle ride is not a nice way to spend
your Saturday afternoon.
